- Crystal C.P. Wang learned after Kun Opera masters Hsu Yen-Chi, Chang San-Hsiang and Chou Hsieh-Wen and has been practicing Kunqu art for over 38 years. She is a senior Kunqu scholar and has a Master degree in art history. Besides practicing Kun art masterfully, she is involved in Tea Ceremony and Flower Arrangement Society activities as well, and teaches at the National Taiwan University of Arts as an Assistant Professor. She has a profound appreciation of various classical Chinese Art forms. Embracing the essential requirements of a talented actress of Traditional Chinese Opera, she has a bright and charming voice, and an attractive stage presence. In 1990, she participated in the first joint performance with the Shanghai Kun Opera group which started the Kun art exchange across Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China. In 2005 she co-founded Lanting Kun Opera Troupe with Chu Huei-Liang and Hsiao Ben-Yau, and accepted the position of Chairperson at that year’s end, and executes tasks as producer, chief editor, and performing roles throughout troupe’s operation. She also dedicates herself in re-organizing and condensing contemporary Kun Opera scripts, classical Kun Opera acts and also participated in various cross art form dialogs and performances.
- Chairperson Wang spares no efforts in promoting the art of Kunqu! For over 10 years, her relentless effort creates for Lanting a Retro yet uniquely innovative Kun Opera style, a style that is totally different from those of the Kun opera groups in mainland China. Her effort has won Lanting the honor of being in among the finalists ten times and herself has been awarded “The Best Producer of Special Album” at the 19th “Golden Melody Award” in the Classical and Traditional Art Category!
